The Ting Tings - Shut Up and Let Me Go

Single Review by Jason Morton | 21 Jul 2008
Single title: Shut Up and Let Me Go
Artist: The Ting Tings
Label: Columbia
Release date: 21 Jul

Anyone ruing the entry of terms like "disco throwback" or "new wave revival" in to modern music's increasingly expansive lexicon would be best to leave the room when this record comes on. That being said, it's a solid track bringing together a simple, danceable beat with sliding bass grooves and jangly guitars, well suited for a spin at your average club night. With That's Not My Name, the leadoff single from their debut album We Started Nothing (both debuting at No. 1 on their respective UK charts), establishing the duo, Shut Up and Let Me Go keeps the good times rolling with singer Katie White spitting her rejection snottily, eliciting - almost by default - a comparison to Debbie Harry in tough-girl mode. With three charted hits from their debut album, The Ting Tings will definitely be a force to be reckoned with in the discotheques for the remaining summer months. [Jason Morton]
