Sparklehorse - Don't Take My Sunshine Away

a grizzly Super Furry Animals raking up the autumn leaves of Tom Waits

Single Review by Billy Hamilton | 13 Oct 2006

What is it that makes Sparklehorse such an endearing proposition? Perhaps it's the sombre sense of melody and introverted ingenuity that filters throughout every album. Or maybe it's multi-instrumentalist Mark Linkous' surrealist approach to song structuring. Either way, this understated group has created another stunningly sumptuous single in Don't Take My Sunshine Away. Saturated in post-summertime blues, it's executed like a grizzly Super Furry Animals raking up the autumn leaves of Tom Waits. As vivid and melancholic as ever, this is an effortless insight into the captivating splendour of Sparklehorse. [Billy Hamilton]
