Recliner - Walkaway

Several thousand degrees removed from rock's intended purpose

Single Review by Andrew Monroe | 15 Jul 2006
Single title: Walkaway
Artist: Recliner
Label: Circus
Some cultural products are so ridiculously bad that they get called "camp." Others are just so mind-numbingly insubstantial that they don't get called anything and receive one-star reviews in The Skinny. Sure, Walkaway features shiny, poppy, guitars and some competent vocal harmonizing, but it's less a song than a mini-motivational seminar, letting its listeners know that although life can get difficult, everything tends to work out in the end. In other words, it delivers essentially the same message as "comforting" tea adverts do. This sticky-sweet sentiment seems several thousand degrees removed from rock's intended purpose, so take your ears elsewhere. [Andrew Monroe]
