Justice vs. Simian - We Are Your Friends

Points awarded for being genuinely disturbing

Single title: We Are Your Friends
Artist: Justice vs. Simian
Label: Ten
It can get quite creepy if someone keeps repeatedly, forcefully, telling you that they are your friends. It's like, "ok, there are some issues here, I'm just gonna back away." And if they are doing some crazy electro-stomp dance in between shouting to remind us that we'll never be alone, it just gets past the point of weird. C'mon guys, you're scaring me. Justice's double-think of psych-pop-flower Simian turns their freaky alt.indie into a guaranteed club anthem with more bounce than Tigger, but there is something deeply unsettling about the lyrics. If I was skanking in a club and this came on, I would hide. It's a big musical hug; not in a nice way though, more a trenchcoats & promises-of-sweets kind of way. Points awarded for being genuinely disturbing. [Ali Maloney]
