Juliette and the Licks - Sticky Honey

the riffs promote more of a skip than a swagger

Single Review by Iiani Blanke | 12 Dec 2006
Single title: Sticky Honey
Artist: Juliette and the Licks
Label: Hassle
From their sophomoric effort, Four On the Floor, Juliette and the Licks try their hand at a sound less crude than that which has become their trademark. Ms Lewis' vocals are surprisingly smooth, if not seeming somewhat over-produced, and the riffs promote more of a skip than a swagger. Nonetheless, this single is undeniably catchy. With a chorus bassline slightly reminiscent of the Dandy Warhol's super-hit Bohemian Like You, this track is notably toned down from their usual sweaty, uninhibited energy. With the obvious absence of the usual rawness of their frontwoman's slightly hoarse, Southern-drawled shouts, this track's riff-laden chorus makes it. [Iiani Blanke]
