Dem Franchize Boyz ft. Lil Peanut and Charlay - Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It

like six year-olds playing at being West Coast Gangsta on a cheap Casio

Single title: Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It
Artist: Dem Franchize Boyz ft. Lil Peanut and Charlay
Label: Virgin
It seems that rap has finally mutated into the full-blown homoerotic R'n'B that it always threatened to become. Sure, they might reckon they're "pimping in the club", but it's more likely they're oiling up each other's pecs for a photo shoot. Dem Franchize Boyz? In it for the money then? Maybe if they spent as much time practicing as they did on their pseudo-royal logo this single wouldn't sound like six year-olds playing at being West Coast Gangsta on a cheap Casio, turning in lyrics that are in effect a montage of 50 Cent (isn't he East Coast?) and chums. The 'it' in Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It can't possibly be the same 'it' as in "keeping it real." People, are we not beyond this? [Ali Maloney]
