Dananananaykroyd - Some Dresses

Awkward art-school rock meets punk chaos

Single Review by Nick Mitchell | 12 Dec 2006
Single title: Some Dresses
Artist: Dananananaykroyd

Dananananaykroyd – a bizarre name for a bizarrely brilliant band. The Glasgow six-piece formed after ditching various former muso-mates earlier this year, but was this collective sacrifice worth it? Some Dresses, their second single to date, yells a resounding 'yes'. The song starts with an ear-grabbing, high-speed riff and (what sounds like) a gang of the band's mates chanting the chorus, before the rhythm kicks in with singer Giles's carelessly-delivered vocals. Awkward art-school rock meets punk chaos in Dananananaykroyd, another new 'post-everything' band who mop up influences indiscriminately - from Pavement to At the Drive-in - and still sound urgently new. [Nick Mitchell]

Release Date: November 6
Dananananaykroyd play The Arches, Glasgow on November 10.
