Boy Kill Boy - Shoot Me Down

Bell-like guitars and xylophone, simple but catchy keyboard, and Chris Peck's charming vocals

Single title: Shoot Me Down
Artist: Boy Kill Boy
Label: Vertigo
Released in support of the War Child charity, Boy Kill Boy's latest offering is a suitably downbeat but nonetheless engaging track. Despite veering into pop ballad territory - regretful lyrics recounting a broken relationship – 'Shoot Me Down' is held together by bell-like guitars and xylophone, a simple but catchy keyboard tune, and Chris Peck's charming vocals. It also works well as a diversion from their usual thrashy, indie-pop songs, developing into a swooning romantic melody without becoming sickeningly sweet. Already favoured by the fans, this infectious tune seems likely to garner a larger audience for the band in the inevitable rundown of cheesy Christmas singles. [Lucy Weir]
