Bat For Lashes - What's A Girl To Do

An unnerving chasm of morbid self-gratification riddled with uncertainty

It's amazing how much misery five little words can create. When "it's not you, it's me" projects from a want-away partner's tongue it floors you like an apoplectic sledgehammer. But on new single What's A Girl To Do, Bat For Lashes' Natasha Khan seems to thrive on this momentary shattering of the heart. Because emitting from her sultry laconic crow – scattered mercilessly over orchestral drum crashes and writhing keys - is an unnerving chasm of morbid self-gratification riddled with uncertainty. And like all the worst break-ups, this spell-binding composition leaves you weeping uncontrollably as it comes to a dramatic end. [Billy Hamilton]
