The Hussy's - Sunday Morning EP

The Hussy's are easy to digest, with little opportunity to become wearisome

Single title: Sunday Morning EP
Artist: The Hussy's
Label: Fat Cheerleader
Continuing on from where their previous EPs left off, Sunday Morning is a quartet of sharp, catchy tunes that flirts with punky and Motown elements but ultimately, never betrays The Hussy's pop sensibilities. Although not the strongest of the four, the title track leads well; its plinking pianos, call and answer verse and "doo doo" chorus adding a dose of theatre to the sweet melody, which is seemingly a given. Bypassing the lacklustre Jesus, Rock Steady is the highlight. Lead singer Fili's voice sounds fresh, feisty and vital in an ode to the 80s' Swedes. Finishing up with Sister Mary, a tale of a transsexual nun that would have Ray Davies beaming with pride, there is undoubted potential here. In short ten minute bursts, The Hussy's are easy to digest, with little opportunity to become wearisome. Whether they can maintain this momentum over an LP format though, remains to be seen.
