Stephen Malkmus - Kindling for the Master remix EP

Former Pavement frontman and American indie veteran Stephen Malkmus gets the remix treatment on this ad hoc little EP. The song in question, Kindling for the Master, comes from Malkmus's 2005 album 'Face the Truth', so presumably this collection of four remixes created itself, as the song gathered momentum in certain circles over the past year. Whatever the explanation, this is an interestingly diverse collection, from UK electro-head Emperor Machine's funky approach to the squelchy synths of Canadian Polmo Polpo. The best effort of the quartet though belongs to band du jour Hot Chip, whose quirky re-instrumentation is a gem in itself. [Nick Mitchell]
