dBass – Garden EP

Album Review by David McNally | 21 Oct 2010
Album title: Garden EP
Artist: dBass
Label: dBass Collective
Release date: Out Now

Coming off a spate of gigs around the UK, dBass release their Garden EP, and if the 3 tracks don't quite capture the muscular risk-taking of their live attack, they at least show off their vitality and diversity. Almost alone among the moribund Glasgow jazz scene, dBass are all under 30 and are soaked in various types of jazz from 70s Rhodes-led fusion to straight up swinging in 4/4. Hip-hop is in there too, fittingly since they supported Guru way back when, but like all acts worth their salt they are more than the sum of their influences. By all means pick this up but better to catch them live so they can grab you by the ears. [David McNally]

Playing Cafe Rio, Glasgow on 30 Oct and 27 Nov; Bar Bloc, Glasgow on 28 Nov and Bar Brel, Glasgow on 4 Dec.
