Dam Mantle – WE EP

Album Review by Neil Murchison | 25 Jul 2011
Album title: WE EP
Artist: Dam Mantle
Label: GETME! Records
Release date: 25 Jul

We can only speculate that Dam Mantle has yet to sleep this year, what with fitting in a US tour and album release, finishing an art degree in Glasgow and now releasing his third EP. But yhere is no indication that anything here has been rushed; the intricate, organic electronic sounds imprinted all over this record are not sketched loosely but drawn out over time.

The opening track is by far the longest he has attempted and it is a masterclass in progression, from the opening sweeping chords and scattered rhythms to the bellowing gong chimes that close it. Somnambulate, My Dear recalls Four Tet in its melodies but plays a different set of tricks with the beats. [Neil Murchison]
