A Band Called Quinn - D.I.Y. EP

A release that whets the appetite for something more substantial

Single Review by Finbarr Bermingham | 01 Apr 2008
Single title: D.I.Y. EP
Artist: A Band Called Quinn
Label: Tromolo
DIY is a collection of five highly polished, dancefloor friendly nuggets from Glaswegian stalwarts Quinn, the focal point throughout being the lustrous vocals of lead singer Louise. The opening eponymous track - with a sing-along chorus that nods to Goldfrapp - is likeable but bettered by the One-eyed Boy Mix that succeeds it, which adds a distinct industrial edge to the pop affectation it already has in abundance. Hey Chi Chi!, a glittering mix of electric guitar, '60s girl group nostalgia and sound effects all the way from Wham City is the highlight, on a release that whets the appetite for something more substantial.
