Crosbi - All In Album Review

Crosbi paint their sound in more expansive strokes than most of their starry-eyed contemporaries

Album Review by Nick Mitchell | 14 Aug 2006
Album title: All In
Artist: Crosbi
Label: Split

The latest normal kids from a normal town (Wrexham, north Wales) to try their hand at the guitar music template, Crosbi paint their sound in more expansive strokes than most of their starry-eyed contemporaries. Their serious commitment to it all comes across in the stomping opener Coastline and the gritty passion of new single Helayou. Conventional guitar tracks are overhauled by bongos (on the impressive Sonny) and accomplished production imbues 'All In' with the kind of horizon-gazing atmosphere of The Verve's 'Urban Hymns'. Despite all this excellent musicianship, Crosbi lack that one standout tune to really launch them into national success, and singer Andy Jones's stretched vocals (which resemble John Power in his heyday) can become irksome, despite his good intentions.
