One of this year's most convincing and enduring albums thus far, Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J. Fairplay's Ruled By Passion, Destroyed By Lust (as The Asphodells) gets the high-profile remix treatment from some of the most respected names in house and electro. The results widen the sonic palette of the analogue synth-driven originals, Ivan Smagghe transmuting One Minute's Silence into pulsing electro which is by turns crunchy and feral and blissed-out and abstract.

Scott Fraser's electro-driven take on We Are The Axis is sublime, Richard Sen's drifting house workout transforms the shimmering guitars of Beglammered into a low-slung, minimal workout, while Justin Robertson's tighter electro take on the track has a beguiling, twisted bassline and hollow 808 kicks. Phil Kieran's dubbed-out take on Late Flowering Lust emphasises the guitars, and the other remixers bring out disparate but always engaging elements. Complements and enhances the original album, just as a good remix collection should.
