Best known as one third of The xx, Romy Madley Croft is now a force of nature in the electronic indie sphere in her own right, and Mid Air – her debut album as Romy –  is sure to catch you in an emotional trance on the dancefloor. A lo-fi chill beat kicks in on Loveher as Romy’s soothing vocals invites you into her intimate world of love, privacy and control. Emotions run high as the stripped back vocals climax to repeat the mesmerizing mantra 'Lover, I love her', with the underlying anxiety of love being so intense that it might suffocate her.

Strong, produced in collaboration with Fred again.., has an upbeat energy, encouraging vulnerability and the blissful feeling of euphoria when you're able to truly let go in love. The title track is glitchy and experimental, reflecting on the fragmented and transient nature of our experiences. Romy gently builds up to the cheerful underlying sentiment: 'My mother says to me, enjoy your life', slickly sampled from Beverly Glenn-Copeland's La Vita. The album closes with a story of love at first sight, as Romy sheds layers of introspection and hesitation to fully embrace feelings of infatuation in fleeting crushes.

Mid Air is a must-listen for anyone looking for a sentimental electronic dance anthem or for a song to say the words we are sometimes afraid to say.
