Mt. - Lethologica

In a genre that is so fundamentally lazy and mediocre, they are very competent, I suppose

Album title: Lethologica
Artist: Mt.
Label: Motivesounds
So... post-rock: stripping away the crass iconography, beer-fueled macho posturing of rock, and instead replacing them with formulaic instrumentals that are more predictable than the late Top of the Pops. When stripping away rock you should watch out that you don't scrape off the layer that actually, well... rocks. Fomerly known as Ctraltdelete, Mt. play sub-rock nerd workouts that go strum, strum, drum fill, repeat riff over and over until you run out of tape. The songs have pseudo-meaningful names like Worms and Coffee and Sense of Wonder Still Intact, in fact, the only thing epic about these guys is how spectacularily underwhelming they can be at times. Although, to be fair, in a genre that is becoming so fundamentally lazy and mediocre, they are quite competent, I suppose. [Ali Maloney]
