Lou Reed - Lollapalooza Live DVD
It seems like Lollapalooza took a sharp nosedive in terms of quality when we reached the new millennium and this document of Lou Reed’s set in 2009 does little to recover its reputation. While he was never known as the most energetic of performers there’s still something disheartening to watch him irritably sleepwalk through a performance to a huge yet hugely uninterested crowd, to the extent where even he looks disgusted with them at times.
He can’t be blamed for everything as even when he does inject some of his old charm and force back into his voice, like on his vehement delivery of Dirty Blvd., he is constantly being sabotaged by a saxophonist who seems determined to live out his rock star fantasies in the most atonal fashion possible and a token acid-surf throwback, replete with multiple Macbooks, who seemingly wandered onto stage and decided to set up camp. Lou Reed may be a legend but you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise after enduring this.
