Album title: You Wanna See Something Really Scary?
Artist: Hayseed Dixie
Label: Cooking Vinyl
If you like your music fun, shallow and Bluegrass, you'll love this. Out the day before Hallowe'en, this mini-album features some inspired silliness, with countrified versions of classics Monster Mash and Bad Moon Rising reducing most who hear them to a giggling mess. Monster Mash is going to be released as a single and may get some radio play purely for its kitch value. The other tracks (one cover and two originals) are more your regular Bluegrass fare with yokel vocals and rollicking banjos, though somehwat lacking inspiration. It's the covers for which Hayseed Dixie are famous though, indeed they first became popular by covering AC/DC (hence Hayseed Dixie – geddit?) and they're well worth catching when they hit Scotland in the middle of November. Other bands take themselves way too seriously. [Xavier Toby]
