GLC – Love, Life & Loyalty
Not to be mistaken for Goldie Lookin Chain or the Greater London Council, representing from the chill, Chicago Illinois, Leonard D. Harris, alias Gangsta Legend Crisis, speaks of the grind and hustle of the hood. GLC has been collaboratively involved in the Windy City scene since featuring on Kanye’s much acclaimed The College Dropout. Now signed to West’s label, Love, Life & Loyalty is GLC’s solo debut, flaunting his self-proclaimed “vernacular, pimp spectacular, the genetic of this pimpin’ aesthetic.”
Hip-hop is the sound of the street only in so much as embodying the aspiration to transcend. This is the premise behind Flight School, a vocoder lacquered number featuring Kanye and T Pain. “You never been so high," he rhymes. "Kiss the ground goodbye. And you say damn baby how did you get that fly?”
GLC is everything you expect from hip-hop: bitches, hoes, guns and dope. Sir Mix-A-Lot emcees on Clockin Lotsa Dollarz, John Legend throws in some soul, Twista spits some bars and Manfred Mann is sampled on The Light. Yet for all these ingredients Love, Life & Loyalty is no masterpiece, just a record to bust out whilst chowing down on KFC in your ride.
