Gang of Four - Live... In the Moment

Album title: Live... In the Moment

The algorithm runs like this: for every great live album, there are 50 or more that are bad ideas. Periodically, though, you have a band that are seen at their best in a live environment. Gang of Four are such a band and Live… In the Moment is the kind of record as likely to appeal to Joy Division hold-outs as fans of LCD Soundsystem.

With a setlist spanning more than 35 years – from Damaged Goods from 1979’s Entertainment (a record that sits at #8 on Pitchfork’s Top 100 of the 70s list and was found on Kurt Cobain’s handwritten list of favourite albums) to Where The Nightingale Sings from last year’s What Happens Next,  this Live… album shows a band at the top of its game. Given the times we live in, and that so few bands are brave enough to have actual opinions on the state of the world, we need Gang of Four more than ever.
