Album title: We Are Night Sky
Artist: Deadboy and the Elephantmen
Label: Fat Possum
The clues are there in the fabulous moniker of Deadboy and the Elephantmen. Those of you suspecting that there are dark forces at work here are not wrong. The debut album 'We are Night Sky' exudes a macabre character as this girl/guy two-piece flit between gothic, garage tear-ups and melancholic hymns. Singer/guitarist Dax Riggs' voice has power and depth, at points reminiscent of Bowie on The Man Who Sold the World. Tessie Brunet's drumming and backing vocals compliment his style perfectly on tales of dark deeds and morbid fascinations. The opening tracks Already Dead and No Rainbow set the bar high and unfortunately some of the later tunes can't summon the spirits quite so well. The eerie atmosphere is maintained throughout however and if you find yourself drawn to the darker side of life you may well enjoy this thoroughly. [Dave Reid]
This album is released on March 27.
