Alamos - Alamos

Just because you're angry, doesn't mean you can't be melodic.

Album title: Alamos
Artist: Alamos
Label: Pet Piranha

Dundee band Alamos' debut album has a lot to teach some young 'punk' bands bobbing on the latest wave of the genre's revival. Just because you're angry, doesn't mean you can't be melodic. Just because you're not creating an entirely new sound, doesn't mean you have to copy every other band that came before you. This is certainly not a groundbreaking release, but it does exactly what it sets out to do. It's a collection of no nonsense, jump-about post punk tunes spat out with the kind of venom that could make a rattlesnake jealous. Stand out tracks Photograph It, Pixies-like It's A Film and the quirky Small Ships suggest that there is more to come from this lot. This will no doubt whet the appetite for the veritable feast of boisterous urgency that will hopefully ensue. [Finbarr Bermingham]
