Great Scots: 2022 in Scottish Music

To celebrate another amazing year of Scottish music, please enjoy this mammoth eight-hour Great Scots playlist, helping you through to 2023

At the start of December, we announced our music team’s top ten albums of the year, celebrating releases from the likes of Beyoncé, Wet Leg, Alex G and Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul. We also took a look back at the year in Scottish music, and with the help of the music team once again, were able to highlight our top ten Scottish albums of the year too. That list features the likes of 2022 SAY Award-winner Fergus McCreadie, Goodnight Louisa, Kathryn Joseph, Walt Disco and Lady Neptune.

But the top tens never feel like quite enough to celebrate the breadth and diversity of music that’s being made in Scotland each year, so as 2022 comes to an end and things start to wind down, as has become tradition, we’ve created another of our end of year mega playlists.

The first year we created our now annual Great Scots playlist it was packed with 71 songs, but this year that’s expanded to almost double at 133. Please believe us when we say there was so much more we could have included, but we had to be sensible as eight hours of music already feels like too much. Or wait, is there even a thing as too much music?

If you already follow our regularly updated Music Now playlist (follow that here), then chances are you’ll have already heard a lot of these songs/artists throughout the year, but it’s good to have everything in one place. On the playlist you'll hear everyone from Young Fathers, Kathryn Joseph, Bemz and Hamish Hawk to Berta Kennedy, Pictish Trail and Swiss Portrait via Nicole Cassandra Smit, swim school, Humour and more. So without further ado, strap in, hit play, stick it on shuffle and get ready to explore songs from Scottish artists, old and new.
