Track premiere: The Earth ft Gruff Rhys – Married 2 Me

We’re pleased to premiere ‘Married 2 Me’, a brand new Valentine’s Day collaboration between Gruff Rhys and Welsh rockers The Earth.

The synth-packed track sees Rhys, who released fourth solo LP American Interior last year, team up with Super Furry Animals bandmate Dafydd Ieuan for the first time since the band's 2010 album Dark Days/Light Years. Rhys shares vocal duties on the track with The Earth vocallist Dionne Bennett.

Alongside Ieuan and Bennett, The Earth also feature former Catatonia guitarist Mark Roberts, with Tristan Marley (bass) completing the line-up. Rhys' American Interior project, which featured Rhys' first book as well as his latest record, saw him travel across the United States in the footsteps of 18th-century Welsh explorer John Evans.

Describing the track, Dafydd Ieuan said: "Married 2 Me just couldn’t find a place on either of The Earth’s albums, but sometimes things just fall into place. Gruff had been hanging out with us at the studio one afternoon as we were revisiting the track, and after a few hours suddenly got to his feet and said he was ready to do something.

"He basically sang these lines in two takes and went home. But, why labour over something that’s born beautiful?”

Married 2 Me is out on digital download on Valentine's Day, Sat 14 Feb, via Strangetown Records.
