Tigerfest 2009 Roars Into Action

Article by Gordon Bruce | 24 Apr 2009

The discerning music fan will either need marathon stamina or the ability to pull off a convincing sickie for the month of May, because across Aberdeen, Dunfermline and Edinburgh, Tigerfest '09 is once again ripping up the east coast with one of its most stellar casts to date.

The beauty of the festival is that some of the most promising local upstarts to have joined the pantheon of Scotland music in recent years are permitted to mingle with the more established of its rich fraternity. This means for you, one night to the next you can sit cross-legged as the majestic plucking and tinkling of Fence Collective members (James Yorkston, King Creosote and The Pictish Trail) grace your ears; and the next you can move like a madman to the celtic-tinged experimentation of Meursault; the dizzying glee of Dananananaykroyd; and Scotland's answer to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Dirty Summer.

But this is only the beginning. Suave international acts such as Nouvelle Vague and Kid Carpet are also set to fly in, and there's a rare appearance from former Delgado Alun Woodward as Lord Cut-Glass (joined by fellow Chemikal Underground stalwarts De Rosa). So load up on Pro-Plus and prepare the sick note, because this is a huge month that's well worth the morning(s) after.
