Scottish Alternative Music Awards 2018: The Winners
The winners of this year's Scottish Alternative Music Awards were revealed in Glasgow last night
The SAMAs, now in their ninth year, aim to celebrate all aspects of Scottish music and this year's winners of the awards were an eclectic bunch.
Genre-straddling outfit Lylo picked up the Best Live Act prize, while the Best Newcomer award went to 'council punk' three-piece The Dunts. The Best Hip-Hop award went to socially conscious rapper Solareye, with Megan Airlie and Declan Welsh & The Decadent West scooping the Acoustic and Rock/Alternative prizes respectively. The Best Metal award went to Tenements, with Lo Kindre's win in the Best Electronic rounding off the winners.
The Awards, hosted by DJ Jim Gellatly and STV presenter Laura Boyd, also saw live performances from the likes of Blanck Mass, The Vegan Leather, and Shredd.
Of the Awards, SAMAs Founder and Director Richy Muirhead said: “Last night was a giant success and celebration of Scottish music, the awards brought together the music industry and music fans from across Scotland. Congratulations to all the nominees and to the winners! There was a really great energy in the room and it’s amazing to see the community come together and support the Scottish music scene.”
