The Skinny & GoldFlakePaint to host Edinburgh Magazine Festival gig
Maranta, Edwin Organ and D R I F T will play Edinburgh International Magazine Festival's Your New Favourite Band night at Sneaky Pete's on 17 September
Running from 16-22 September, the Edinburgh International Magazine Festival is a series of events including talks, workshops, podcast recordings and more. As part of the week-long programme, The Skinny are delighted to be teaming up with our good pals at GoldFlakePaint to bring a night of live music to Sneaky Pete's.
Taking place on Tuesday 17 September, the event will feature a headline performance from Edinburgh electronic duo Maranta, whose track Radiate from their debut EP Care ii Cure has been giving us life all summer. Following a standout afternoon performance on our stage at Kelburn Garden Party back in July, and a stellar opening slot for Free Love at Summerhall at the start of August, we just had to have them along to headline this one.
Joining Maranta on the night is Glasgow producer Edwin Organ, who we first caught playing Wide Days back in April 2018. His latest single, Truths & Beliefs, is the first to be taken from his upcoming EP, the second in a three-part trilogy which questions the uncertainty of the male role in today’s society. He says: “Looking inward isn’t something I’ve had to do before, and I certainly liked to brush off the serious shit with humour, but after a tumultuous few years for me personally, I took the opportunity to dive into what I was neglecting.”
Completing the bill are Paisley electronic duo D R I F T, who we’re delighted to say will be playing their first ever Edinburgh show as part of this event. With only three songs released so far including their most recent single Edge of Love, with Linzi Clark's dreamy vocals and a music video featuring a very adorable floof of a cat (see above if you don't believe us), we can’t wait to see what these relative newcomers have tucked up their sleeve.
Laura Dunlop, Director of the Edinburgh International Magazine Festival says: “Magazines have long had a key role in fuelling our passion for music, so I’m excited to celebrate that creative interaction at the very first Edinburgh International Magazine Festival.
"With great bands introduced by The Skinny and GoldFlakePaint, this unique gig will feel like a music magazine that’s jumped off the page into real life. Both these magazines have an important role at the heart of the music scene in Scotland and beyond, so I know that this is going to be a brilliant night filled with great music and words.”
