Mark McGowan – Hot Coals (Track Premiere)

Listen to the new track by Glasgow songwriter Mark McGowan

Feature by Music Team | 22 Mar 2017

McGowan's new track showcases his powerful voice and folk-meets-soul sound, invoking both his working class Glasgow roots and the Greenwich Village folk scene of the early 1960s. Describing the origins of the track, McGowan says: "Hot Coals is the short summation of a day-long daydream; the insecurity of treading thin ice, whilst at the same time trying to grab whatever silver linings might come your way." Listen to the track in the player below.

McGowan plays a free BBC 6 Music Festival Fringe show at Saint Luke's on 23 Mar alongside Glasgow alt-folk four-piece The Great Albatross, and Declan Welsh & The Decadent West; McGowan then plays a headline show at the Britannia Panopticon in Glasgow on 31 Mar, and he's also on the bill for this year's Eden Festival in Dumfries and Galloway.

Hot Coals is released on 21 Apr via In Black Records
