Kinbrae is the musical project of twin brothers Andrew and Michael Truscott, based in Edinburgh and Dundee. Their experimental mix of brass, electronics and percussion makes for truly beautiful ambient soundscapes that have a classical bent, as heard on their latest single Movement of Light, the second to be taken from their second album Landforms.

Following on from the release of their 2016 debut Tidal Patterns, and due for release via the relatively new London-based label Truant Recordings on 19 April, Landforms explores the River Tay, its surrounding landscape and the impact it had on the brothers growing up. It also sees Kinbrae venture further than before into a more electronic territory. The brass and synth parts throughout the record are used to explore how light reflects and moves over water while the more percussive elements are in place to represent a train passing overhead on the Tay Rail Bridge.

"For this record we wanted to expand ourselves sonically to combine brass parts with synths, electronic textures and manipulated field recordings to create an expansive orchestral sound," Andrew tells us. "Movement of Light was one of the first songs we wrote for the record and from early on in the recording process we thought it was well suited to open the album."
