Following on from the release of the super catchy Obsidian last year, Glasgow’s very own ‘femme witch’ Elisabeth Elektra is kicking off 2020 in true style with the equally tantalising Crystalline. Seamlessly picking up where Obsidian left off, Crystalline is bulging with glitchy instrumentation, liquid pulses and an insanely addictive chorus that we promise you'll be humming for days to come.

Co-produced by Elektra and Lewis Gardiner (Ellie Goulding, Prides) and recorded with instrumental contributions from Julian Corrie (Miaoux Miaoux, Franz Ferdinand) and Graeme Ronald (Remember Remember), The Skinny are delighted to be giving you a first listen to Crystalline, which you can hear in the below SoundCloud player (click here if it’s not displaying correctly).

"Crystalline started out as a song I heard on the radio in a dream I had. It’s actually how lots of my songs begin – as dream songs," Elektra tells us. "I woke up with it still clearly in my head and wrote the whole song in about 40 minutes. I collect crystals and have done so for a long time. I think that my love for them fed into Crystalline, both lyrically and musically."

She adds: "I first recorded this song with Julian Corrie, then I brought in Lewis Gardiner to work with me on some additional production. At the final stages I just felt it needed something more – something I hadn’t been able to give it myself – so I approached Graeme Ronald whose music I love. He added some really beautiful parts which really brought the whole thing together.”

Along with the new single, set for general release on 14 February via Occult Babes, comes news of Elisabeth Elektra’s debut album, Mercurial. Due for release this spring, it seems fans of dreamy lo-fi synth-pop really have something to look forward to this year.

Crystalline is released on 14 Feb – pre-save it on Spotify here; Mercurial is released on 8 May
