Originally from Oban, Colin Bailey previously worked under monikers The Slumberjack and Drums of Death and has over the years remixed tracks for the likes of Hot Chip and Franz Ferdinand; he also co-wrote and co-produced Peaches 2009 album I Feel Cream and has worked with Azealia Banks.

For the past couple of years, Bailey has been working away on his new project under the name Austin Ato with his brand new The Sound Of EP set for release on 13 July via Man Power’s Me Me Me label. Man Power was so smitten with The Sound Of that he signed it only a few hours after hearing it for the first time, going on to change the label’s entire release schedule in order to squeeze it in; “It’s like a quadruple A-side release and I personally find it impossible to pick a favourite [track],” Man Power says of the EP.

The Skinny are delighted to be premiering Ben’s Groove taken from the EP, a funky disco cut featuring jubilant horns and an infectious sample of George Benson’s timeless classic Give Me the Night. "Ben’s Groove is based around a two-beat loop of George Benson,” Bailey tells us of the track. “It hypnotises you and tries to transport you somewhere despite not actually really doing anything and I love that. It’s the feeling I get from Soundstream’s tunes, just a perfect loop forever.

“Sometimes I write tracks with lots of moving parts like Maelstrom from this EP but other times, as with Ben’s Groove, all you want to do is let a loop ride out, not mess with it too much and give the DJ lots of room. Oh yeah, I just realised when writing just now that the horn sound is totally, 100% influenced by David Byrne’s In the Future.”
