Aino Elina – Saippuaa (Video Premiere)

Originally hailing from Lapland in Finland, Edinburgh-based synthpop songwriter Aino Elina is back with Saippuaa, taken from her debut EP Unissa. Elina combines electronic sounds with emotive Finnish lyrics – Saippuaa being Finnish for soap – and her eccentric visual style is on full display in this latest video. Introducing the song, Elina says: "Saippuaa is a reminder of that moment when you feel the joy of being you – no matter what – when you feel reborn, invincible. It’s a reminder to shine your light and embrace your weird.

“I’m not very good at writing songs when I deliberately make time to write them. They just come to me whenever they want! One morning I woke up feeling really happy, and the melody for Saippuaa was already in my head. Then I took a shower and suddenly the idea for the lyrics was there – surprise, surprise!”

Elina's debut EP Unissa is out now on streaming platforms, and is also available on a climate-neutral, organic cotton T-shirt which comes bundled with a copy of the EP. Aino Elina plays Eden Festival, Moffat, Dumfries & Galloway, 7-10 June.
