Wolf Eyes @ The Venue

harsh, intense music, made all the more nightmarish by Nate Young's screeching vocals

This Detriot based noise mongering trio create sounds to make your ears bleed and head throb, and from their onstage antics, they clearly have a shitload of fun performing live. Utilising instruments including a one-string guitar, radios and drum machines, this was harsh, intense music, made all the more nightmarish by Nate Young's screeching vocals. Also playing tonight were Radioactive Man and a DJ set by Mogwai, but Wolf Eyes stole the show for themselves. Half the crowd hated it, while the other went fucking nuts; lapping up this soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic world. There are very few people making music with this sort of intensity – it's packed with real emotion unlike so much of the soulless corporately produced hoo-ha in the charts. The only downside to this set was its brevity, as the 45mins felt more like 15. [Xavier Toby]
