We Are Wolves @ Nice'n'Sleazys

a raw, four to the floor synth blitzkrieg

Canadians are over represented in the music biz currently, with the Arcade Fire, The Dears and Broken Social Scene all evincing a wilful peculiarity in America's continental neighbour. We Are Wolves shun the more epic sounds coming from their motherland in favour of a raw, four to the floor synth blitzkrieg, rather like the Rapture when DFA taught them to play keyboards. Led by chunky synths and drum beats played like Moe Tucker, We Are Wolves play electro-pop without the cloying smugness that can sometimes chafe with the genre. Despite a half-empty Sleazys, this evening was an exciting introduction to a band we should all get to know better. [Rosie Capona]
