The Wedding Present @ Glasgow ABC

The impressiveness of his back catalogue is revealed, but it's no revelation

It's approaching the end of The Wedding Present's European Tour, because the World Cup is about to start. Big football fan David Gedge mocks the audience about Scotland's absence from the tournement, before remembering the current make-up of his band includes two Scots. And, of course, Glasgow is their best crowd so far. We forgive you Gedgie, but only because you're treating us tonight. The impressiveness of his back catalogue is revealed, though it's no revelation. Tin-toned guitars crunch through Seamonsters and roll through Bizarro, and Brassneck explodes, and Kennedy totally runs away with the crowd, who are only too happy to hold it's hand. Lovestruck anthem Octopussy closes on "you don't have to go anywhere" as Rock Steady prepare to chuck us out. In the meantime, Glasgow has been reminded of the place The Wedding Present holds in indie folklore: quarter-finalists, at least. [Ally Brown]
