The Hussy's @ Barfly

the hooks are lost beneath the live rock attack

Article by Margaret Kirk | 12 Mar 2007
The Hussy's (sic) are more ragged in performance than on MP3: the sarcastic sweetness is not lost, but given a more forceful context with guitars put to the fore. Tonight marks a competent performance, if uninspired, and the hooks that dominate songs like Tiger or Napoleon Dynamite are lost beneath the live rock attack - the live and studio band sound like two different units. What they hold on to, however, is a sparkling beat and Fili's spry soprano. Their ear for a lively tune and snarling lyrics, delivered in a dry manner, mark them out amongst the run of post-punk revivalists. [Margaret Kirk]
