The Go! Team @ Potterrow

Bringing the noise...

Article by Jon Seller | 07 Nov 2007
Fresh off the back of their stonking second LP, Proof of Youth, and with an impressively swollen Potterrow baying for some early-semester hip-hop-rock-dance-type music, The Go! Team take to the stage and from Chuck D-less opener Flashlight Fight to their signature tune Ladyflash, they own the place. This, however, is due more to a receptive (and somewhat lubricated) audience and the Team's ability to entertain, rather than the tunes tonight. Ninja (frontwoman and crowd-choreographer) is barely audible for much of the performance, whilst the delicate treble-heavy melodies which make the records sparkle are lost in a heavy mix of the multi-instrumentalists onstage. Granted, it was always going to be difficult recreating the sun-kissed beauty of the recording, but the effort the band make in putting on a show goes a long way to making up for this. The tunes aren't all lost though, as newies Doing it Right and especially Keys to the City still shine through a muddy mix. [Jon Seller]
