Snowden @ Nice'n'Sleazy

Never before has disillusionment, dishonesty and social decline sounded so compelling.

The bowels of Nice 'n' Sleazy's are perversely befitting for this Atlanta quartet to wreak their engrossing havoc: gloomy, claustrophobic, otherworldly.

Those who left after the affected Jean-Michel Jarre stylings of the Future Site of Rome missed out on an electrifying performance. The small yet receptive audience that remained was rewarded with a seamless performance of the distorted melodies conjured up on their debut album, Anti Anti. The fast paced, heavily reverbed 'Like Bullets,' 'Anti Anti' and 'Between the Rent and Me' were stand-outs. Never before has disillusionment, dishonesty and social decline sounded so compelling.

With confidence and technical ability, Snowden captivate the room; mention must be made of the dynamic between vocalist Jordan Jeffares and bassist Corinne Lee which defamiliarised the drab stage. The four whip up a maelstrom of noise - concluding their set with frantic guitars thrashing in blissful obliviousness of their modest surroundings. [Timothy Weir]
