Pipettes @ The Garage

You'd think that 60s girl group pastiches appeal to something of a niche market. Apparently not. As three girls in matching polka dot outfits waggle their fingers, children, students, a couple of surprisingly old women and a biker in a Les Miserables t-shirt are doing exactly the same thing. Exciting, enthusiastic and effortlessly sexy, The Pipettes are everything a girl group should be. Yes, they're unashamedly retro and their songs last about 50 seconds each, but the room is too busy dancing to Judy to wonder if this type of music is really necessary in 2007. Maybe it's the fact that there are absolutely no delusions of artistic brilliance here, or maybe it's that each song is pop perfection in miniature and is impossible to resist. As they say themselves in Pull Shapes, I just wanna dance, I don't care what the song's about. Career longevity seems unlikely, but it's hard to care when you're having this much fun.
