Tamed and far more sober

Article by Sam Eccles | 12 Nov 2006

Lily Allen = empty hype, or at least that was what one might believe. Instead the bumptious, brash Lily Allen proves this theory incorrect with her incisive lyrical ability, and one belter of a voice. This tour is obviously the making of the young woman. Tamed somewhat since her last visit to Scotland at T in the Park, and far more sober, Lily did herself a favour, as she was able to disprove critics of her vocal ability, and perhaps even expose something of her vulnerable and more gentle side. This is not to say that the gig did not include reference to "Cunts" and "little dicks", but to make comment on this antagonistic and belligerent trait would be to ignore the somewhat less invincible, clearly apparent side of Lily's character; one that is marked with nervous giggles, the swaying of hemlines and lyrical reminiscing of love lost, guileful girlfriends, and patronising counsel.
