Just Jack @ The Sub Club

the music and his vocals become reminiscent of a less arrogant Jamiroquai

Just Jack bounces on to the stage and announces to the audience that the first track is 'All About You'. At first, he sounds similar to The Streets without the drug paranoia, while his band supports him with soulful laid-back jazz funk. When Jack and the band settle into their groove, the music and his vocals become reminiscent of a less arrogant Jamiroquai. The excellent backing vocalist's soft delivery perfectly complements Jack's more soulful singing. There is a bit of onstage banter between Jack and the crowd: as seems the eternal obligation, Jack tells us how much he loves coming to Glasgow, which is naturally well received. This is an enjoyable evening and Jack has an easy going manner and charm, delivering catchy tunes with ease and no little skill. He might be somewhat derivative, but is pleasant enough on the ear and his friendliness wins over the crowd. [Vince Hillaire]
