Dawn your shades and brush your hair back. Welcome to the cult of Glasvegas. Amen.

Behind the media-hyped flag waving, Alan McGee’s sycophantic obsessing, blithe Mary Chain parallels and the niche of council estate colloquialisms, Glasvegas are, with all dissection aside, one of, if not the most unique prospect to emerge this decade. Their hometown duet of nights at the intimate ABC2 has the sense of a band part embracing the comfort of close quarters prior to the release of their debut album, part mixing the explosive alchemy of wee venue, big band. Their set tonight is fleeting, and without encore; the set finishes with a crowd-led Daddy’s Gone, the band vanish and the lights go up; though from the opening no mean city tragedy of Flowers and Football Tops through to Geraldine’s trench-deep bass, barbed distortion and heart on sleeve poetry, Allan and Co. are faultless and the crowd’s response disciple-like. Don your shades and brush your hair back. Welcome to the cult of Glasvegas. Amen. [Paul Neeson]
