Captain @ Oran Mor

Jaunty tunes and cheerful banter ensure their immediate popularity

Article by Gareth K Vile | 11 Jan 2007
Capable of slipping into uneasy, jazzy atmospherics or gently rocking out in the style of a more constrained Sonic Youth, Captain make a great deal of their two vocalists and tasteful poppy arrangements. Their jaunty tunes and cheerful banter ensure their immediate popularity with the dedicated audience, and their final number reaches a peak of intensity that deserved the rapturous calls for an encore. However, they do not push themselves or explore their sound with ambition, preferring to coast on reliable rhythms and easy melodies. They are undeniably catchy and pleasant, and the addition of a rawer passion would create a very exciting and dynamic outfit. [Gareth K Vile]
