Did their jubilance blow a fuse somewhere deep in the Art School?

Article by Sean Michaels | 17 Mar 2006
The lights go out during the climactic moments of It's All Gonna Break. As the band raise their instruments and bang out the final riffs, - violin, horns, four guitars and two drum-kits chiming in time, - there are sparks and then it all goes black. Later, before we call them back on stage to play Ibi for the second time, we speculate. Did their jubilance blow a fuse somewhere deep in the Art School? Did the police come to enforce the curfew? Or was there simply too much spirit up there on the stage – too many Canadians playing too long and too passionately. Their two straight hours were not long enough: I wanted even more of Kevin Drew and newcomer Lisa Lobsinger, even more of Andrew Whiteman's guitar fireworks, even more splendour and even more tumbles, sudden and magical, into darkness.
