Lykke Li @ Cabaret Voltaire, 9 Oct

Article by Jason Morton | 26 Sep 2008

An appearance by Lykke Li at Cabaret Voltaire brings with it the promise of sunny pop, even as summer becomes an obscure memory in Auld Reekie. Well-informed by the infectious melodies of musical and geographical neighbours El Perro del Mar and Peter Bjorn & John, this young Swede will follow up a string of European festival dates with an autumn UK club tour in support of Youth Novels. Though Lykke’s 2008 debut steers through various pop landscapes – from lovelorn tracks such as My to irresistible singalongs like Breaking It Up – she tends to keep to high tempos in her live sets, making swinging hips and shimmying a certain bet.
