Emiliana Torrini @ Òran Mór, 24 Jun

Article by Stephen Toman | 16 Jun 2009

Although one may imagine upon hearing Iceland’s Emiliana Torrini that her music is played by a band of elves beneath an enormous gnarled oak tree, her live act bears far less resemblance to other pixie-folk types such as Joanna Newsom while her partiality for unusual sounds and instruments makes her more akin to Bjork or Camille. Eschewing the typically ‘glacial’ sound of Iceland, her latest LP, Me and Armini, blends warm acoustics with trip-hop infused jazz and doo-wop that's a worth close chin-stroking listen but also provides energetic and uplifting live material.
