Shred Yr Face III: Woods

Barely a year old, this autumn's third Shred Yr Face tour segues on from the successes of previous DIY dream teams which featured Los Campesinos!, No Age and Times New Viking (SYF1), not to mention February's zero BS punk rawk combo of The Bronx, Fucked Up and Rolo Tomassi. The Skinny profiles two of the three bands comprising this leg's 'psych-folk' contingent before they roll into Scotland. Enter the Woods...

Name and occupation:

"We are Woods. We play the bones."

Had you heard of the Shred Yr Face tour prior to being asked to play this third outing? What was your perception of it?

"Heard about it when No Age named it. Our perception was a tight knit tour that destroyed everyone’s faces. I believe its some kind of metaphor for how much this shit rocks. Perception achieved."

What has been your experience of the other bands on the bill, prior to joining forces now?

"We’ve encountered Espers in various configurations over the years, Philadelphia being pretty close to Brooklyn. We’ve played at the Espers compound a few times. We met a Cave Singer on tour in Seattle and the good vibes are flowing."

The two previous tours have been particularly punk rock, though there seems to be much more of a psychedelic folk leaning this time, so to speak. In a dream situation where you could add a fourth band to match the vibe - be they from the past or present - who would it be and why?

"Golden Dawn should get added to the tour for that Gentleman vibe. Or Parson Sound for the ear bleeding ghosts."

You’ve travelled a long way from home to Shred, what do you hope
Scottish fans will bring to the party on the night?

"A readiness to get down? We like little gifts. A snake head in a little bottle of rum. A warm sweater. Good vibes."

Woods play Shred Yr Face III at Stereo, Glasgow, Fri. 13 Nov / Electric Circus, Edinburgh, Sat. 14 Nov
