Physical Graffiti – Andover Dance Group

What’s not to love about a bit of Led Zep?

Andover Dance Group is bringing the sounds of Led Zeppelin crashing into Greenside in a fusion of dance styles and multimedia. Promising to be an exciting exhibition of young American talent, this celebration of rock and roll is set to make its mark on this year’s Fringe.

Co-choreographed by Judy Wombwell and Erin E. Strong, the development of Physical Graffiti has been heavily influenced by ideas of community and collaboration. Strong explains how they have worked closely together from the outset, selecting the music and devising the storyline, and notes that "although [they] chose different sections to choreograph, [they] ended up refining them all together." Highlighting the importance of the company members’ input, she continues that "there are some sections of student choreography included. It not only honours their work - but infuses the show with a lot of youthful vitality."

Led Zeppelin’s music has also played a central role in the design of the piece; in particular the band’s sixth album which lends its title to the dance work. "You can interpret our show quite literally as physical drawing,’ says Wombwell. Not only do the dancers’ bodies evoke this sentiment but the projections too capture the fluidity of movement as they circle and change."

So strut on down to gorgeous Greenside and immerse yourself in the 70s vibe. Dig out those flares and let your hair hang loose. These kids are ready to rock. Are you?
